Liverpool, Ireland, And St. Patrick's
Celebrations In The City

Liverpool has a great historical connection with Ireland, the city was twinned with Dublin in 1997,

Ken Dodd once  said Merseyside was nicknamed “Murphyside” because of Liverpool’s Irish links and strong irish communities,

some people have called Liverpool “Irelands second capital”.

Many People from Ireland visit their families who have settled Liverpool.

The city boasts a strong influx of tourists from Ireland who visit for many events such as The Merseyside Derby and The Grand National Steeple Chase.

People actually travel  from Ireland to celebrate St Patrick’s in Liverpool.

This is a very special twenty four hours in the city’s annual  cultural events calendar.

The people who I photographed were very cooperative and patient, taking the time to pose for me and crowds would “give way” throughout the celebrations allowing me to take clear photographs, then pass in my wheelchair, as someone who suffers with Multiple Sclerosis and is assisted by a chaperone I was grateful for this cooperation which made my evening evening a lot more enjoyable.

The Occaision was fantastic to capture!

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ST. PATRICKS DAY IN LIVERPOOL 2022 – Independent Liverpool (independent-liverpool.co.uk)
Italic Text below is sourced from link just above, detailing St Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Liverpool

St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland.

What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

Liverpool boasts one of the strongest Irish heritages in the UK and as you’ll see from the list below (see link just above), we know how to celebrate it.

From parades to burgers and the odd pub crawl in between, drape yourself in the famous tricolour and get ready for the craic.
