MERMAID HOUSE / PIER MASTERS HOUSE & COOPERAGE

Mermaid House is situated in adjacent former dock buildings and is used by the museum Friends.                 It is not a museum attraction as such.
The Pier Masters House has stood in the Albert Dock since  about 1903 .  It was used as the house for the Pier Master who lived there with his family. His job was to oversee the workings of the locks giving
access to the Albert, Canning and Salthouse Docks.

It is now a feature of the Albert Dock, were tourists have  the opportunity to take a "step back in time" .

During the period of the Spirit of the Blitz exhibition which runs until 6 June 2004 at the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Pier Master's House has become the 1940s House.

It is decked out like a house from WW2 with
anti-blast tape on the windows, "head-to-toe" beds, wartime rations in the kitchen and the garden planted with vegetables.  Visitors can look around many of the rooms in the house.
