LIVERPOOL INSTITUTE OF PERFORMING ARTS

The building had been closed for many years when Paul McCartney decided to establish a school of performing arts in Liverpool.(opened January 96)

LIPA is also known as Paul McCartney's Fame School. It was also the Paul McCartney’s old school-Liverpool Institute for boys.

The man behind the idea of LIPA was Mark Featherstone-Witty, LIPA's principal. Featherstone-Witty had been responsible for the opening of the British Record Industry Trust School in Croydon in 1992, and it was through his work with George Martin on this project that LIPA was born.
