The Royal
Albert Dock - My Continued Inspirations 2007 - 2019
Some I
Reflecting Over Liverpool’s Dock Road - Changing Moods, Atmospheres And Light Patterns
Above An enlarged photograph used on a previous page explained in more detail
The objective of this
photograph was to get the best wider perspective of the overall view.
A focal length of 12mm was used to get my
desired result.
I was able to use a shadow on the right to “draw” the eye into the foreground and surroundings...
The Salthouse Dock is on the left, the Canning Dock is on the right.
The wider focal length has allowed me to
include half the Wheel Of Liverpool on the far left and part of The Museum Of
Liverpool on the far right.
The walls of the Albert Dock complex design shown in this composition belong to Atlantic Pavilion (left) and Edward Pavilion (Right).
Moving from the left of the photograph the next subject is the Albert Salthouse Bridge.
Reflections from the Columns in the Albert
Dock shopping complex and narrowboats, can be seen just beyond the bridge.
The Dr Martin Luther King, Jr Building is just away from The Albert Dock Walls further towards the right.
The Pumphouse restaurant (formerly a pub), is the final structure before The Canning Dock on the right of the photograph,
there are also vessels berthed in the Canning Dock.
Narrow boats are berthed on the right by the
trees in the Salthouse Dock, just to the right of the Royal Albert Dock Gates.
The horizon belongs to the Birkenhead
Landscape….
Cammell Lairds Ship builders can just be seen
from the left (3” aprox) and the Stella line vessel is on The River Mersey
(right).
Above
A closer perspective taken of the subject matters viewed from The Dock Road,
using a focal length of 24mm.
On the left hand side…
The walls of the Atlantic Pavilion and the
reflections frame the image.
Cammell Lairds Ship builders building is more
prominent and is recorded just above the walls of The Royal Albert Dock.
On the right Hand Side…
The Albert Dock entrance gates are now near to the right bottom corner.
I was attracted to the scene because of the warm morning glow on the surroundings in this fantastic city.
Above Taken using the
window as a frame, the camera position is now facing the right site of the area,
using a focal length of 21mm…..
In this composition taken overlooking The
Canning Dock The Museum Of Liverpool is a focal point
The angle of view has allowed me to include
The Open Eye Gallery and part of the Port Of Liverpool Building dome. The
rectangular shape of the ventilation shaft, comes into the shot from the frame
of the window far right. Lights from the passing traffic are in the bottom right
hand corner.
The surroundings in the picture have been
silhouetted, because I wanted to add a graphic element to my work, by exposing
for the brightness of the setting sun.
The sun is “just kissing” the architecture as
it goes down behind The Museum Of Liverpool, hence the title “Liverpool’s
Kissing Sun”
Above The objective of this image was “balance” between subject matters on a “diagonal plane”, (focal length used 24mm).
The taller Pumphouse is on the left side of the photograph and “balances” with the Giant (lying on the raft), on the right, appearing smaller in size to the rest of the surroundings, used as a focal point.
The Museum of Liverpool is composed on the right behind the giant.
Taken after the main proceedings Of Liverpool’s Giant Spectacular in 2018 I waited for the sun to appear to capture the atmosphere of early evening. Reflections are captured over The Canning Dock, as the sun sets filtering rays through the clouds over the Birkenhead Landscape and The River Mersey.
Above I cropped the foreground detail from the original image to make the surroundings more prominent in the middle and backgrounds, making the picture appear “wider”. My decision to crop the image was influenced by the sunsetting over the pumphouse (middle area towards the left) and horizon.
The camera angle was moved higher to capture the dramatic clouds in the sky.
