October

As the dark nights drew in, Liverpool was a bright beacon with Art Festivals that involved lighting displays such as The Liverpool Biennial and The Pool Of Light Festival. People gathered to watch the Qe2 say goodbye to Liverpool. World Museum Liverpool hosted a European Football Exhibition, a Halloween Lantern Parade was held in Sefton Park, The James William Carling Pavement Art Competition was held in Ropes Square off Bold St, and Phase2 of Liverpool1 was opened by Princess Royal. I also photographed St John's Gardens, and other topics at World Museum Liverpool.

Princess Royal visits Liverpool to Open Liverpool1 Phase2 1/10/08

I chose to upload this image in preference to other images taken on the day because the camera has captured a natural glance when something has caught her attention away from the camera, this was another event I was allowed a press pass for.

The pavement Art Competition impressed me,  to see a mundane piece of paving brought to life live was a joy to watch. It was an important competition to have as it brought Art to the public in a very direct way.

Of course it was also important that the Liverpool  Artist James William Carling was remembered in the City's year of culture

A number of works of Art, came to the city, photographed below are a couple of these examples

Biennial Spider Exchange Flags (central image) 22/10/08

As part of Liverpool’s Bienial MADE UP Art Festival, a Spiders Web (known as “Web Of Light”) was designed to cover Exchange Flags with a spider in the middle of the web made from cables. The Artist who designed this work is called AI Weiwei. As part of the composition I have included the Nelson Monument.

3/I picked the angle because I wanted to show how dominating the Art work would be on the individual by tilting the camera upwards.

Pool Of Light Festival 22/10/08

A green lazer was designed to stretch over over Hope St (below left and right ), the green lazer was part of THE POOL OF LIGHT FESTIVAL.

When I photographed the green lazer I chose different compositions

1/I tilted the camera to avoid the distraction of the traffic.

2/I wanted to sump up the busy atmosphere of Hope St of a night.
In each image an exposure of over 1minute was used, the longer exposure time was a particular advantage with the first image that created traffic streaks.
